THE MONASTERY OF ST. JOACHIM OSOGOVSKI

 

The monastery of St. Joachim Osogovski is located in the north-eastern part of Macedonia, near the town of Kriva Palanka. It is about 100 km. from the country's capital, Skopje.
It is situated on the slopes of the Osogovo mountains in scenic landscape overlooking the valley of the Kriva Reka.
The monastery was founded in the XIIth century, but the existing buildings date from later periods. The main church is devoted to St. Joachim Osogovski and was built in the mid-XIXth century by the most famous Macedonian master-builder of that time, Andrej Damjanov. The oldest building in the complex is the small church of the Holy Virgin built in the XIVth century.
The most significant of the surrounding buildings is the monastery dormitory the building of which was started in the mid-XIXth century and was finished at the beginning of this century. The activities of the summer school, including accommodation and catering, take place in this building. Double bedrooms and group bedrooms for students with facilities at floor level are available.
