THE MONASTERY OF ST. JOACHIM OSOGOVSKI
The monastery of St. Joachim Osogovski is located in the north-eastern
part of Macedonia, near the town of Kriva Palanka.
It is about 100 km. from the country's capital, Skopje.
It is situated on the slopes of the Osogovo mountains in scenic landscape
overlooking the valley of the Kriva Reka.
The monastery was founded in the XIIth century, but the existing buildings
date from later periods. The main church is devoted to St. Joachim Osogovski
and was built in the mid-XIXth century by the most famous Macedonian master-builder
of that time, Andrej Damjanov. The oldest building in the complex is the
small church of the Holy Virgin built in the XIVth century.
The most significant of the surrounding buildings is the monastery dormitory
the building of which was started in the mid-XIXth century and was finished
at the beginning of this century. The activities of the summer school, including
accommodation and catering, take place in this building. Double bedrooms
and group bedrooms for students with facilities at floor level are available. |
